Behavior:
When attempting to send/share a document in DocuWare, you receive the following error message;

"Error open mail client"

Solution:
This error can be caused when there is no default mail client setup on the machine. Setting Outlook as the default mail client may fix this error. To do this, please follow (How To Set Outlook as Default Mail Client).
If you already have Outlook set as the default mail client, then do the following test:

  • With a random document on your PC Desktop:
  • Right-click on the document > Send to > Mail recipient

If the same error occurs here, this indicates a problem with your Mail program. In this case, you'll need to reinstall your office package to resolve this issue.

  • This is a terrible solution and needs to be revisited by your engineers.  You are asking for a nuclear fix because your application can't follow the "mailto:" that is native in Windows.  

    The fact that you made a KB article telling people to completely uninstall all of Microsoft Office is insane. 
  • Hello! Thank you for your feedback. The behavior is caused by an issue within the operating system, more specifically, the registry. Therefore, this is the best solution to resolve this behavior.
